We had three meetings in 2009 all of which went well - please click here Northern Meeting at Quinta Arboretum to see a report of one of them. Our 2010 events are now arranged and details are below: Annual General Meeting and Members Day Bristol University Botanic Gardens Saturday May 1st This may seem a long time ahead, but it will come round all too soon, and (be warned) it will come round before the May 2010 issue of Pentachondra comes out. So please put the date and all the details in your 2010 diary now (or as soon as you get one!). The Garden is a fairly recent creation, but already of great interest, specialising as it does in plants from Mediterranean climates, not least Australia. More information about the garden can be found on their website (www.bristol.ac.uk/Depts/BotanicGardens). Don’t be alarmed that it is apparently not open in May; this visit has been arranged specially for APS members. The website also provides details about how to get to the Bristol suburb of Stoke Bishop where the Garden is located. It looks to be accessible by public transport (bus from Bristol Temple Meads station) as well as by car. Entrance will be free to members, as will parking which will be available on a first-come first-served basis in the Walled Garden car park, or in Stoke Park Road if this is full. We have kindly been offered use of a room in the Garden for our AGM which will start at 11:00 am. It will be followed by a guided tour of the Garden in the afternoon, which the Curator, Nick Wray, intends to lead. Tea and coffee will be available in the morning at a cost of £1.50 per head. However, as the Garden will not be open at the time of our visit you will need to bring your own lunch. There should be an opportunity at some point during the day to swap plants, so please bring any spares you may have propagated. So that we can give the Garden an idea of numbers attending, and let those who wish to come have further details of parking and access arrangements at a later date, would you please let APS Secretary, Jeremy Spon, know at least a month beforehand. It is possible that numbers for the Garden tour might have to be limited, so it is particularly important that you do let the Secretary know that you would like to come. Anyone who would like more details of the day at this stage, including more information about how to get there, should also contact the Secretary. Southern Regional Meeting - World Garden at Lullingston Castle Saturday 10th July Tom Hart-Dyke will be showing us round, not just the garden, but also the Eucalyptus National Collection, so it should be a really good day. Northern Regional Meeting - Pat Anderson near Richmond, N Yorks Saturday 26th June Pat is a longstanding member high up in the Tees valley who has written about growing Bottlebrushes there, and also has eucalypts, corokias, hakeas and various other species |
